• Description

Sensory integration is a process inherent in all of us that affects how our brains make sense of the world and guide how we act and feel.

For some individuals, especially those with sensory challenges, this process does not work as smoothly, which can lead to difficulties with learning, behavior and movement.

This workshop offers an introduction to sensory integration development through a neurodevelopmental lens. Doing so will form the foundation to better understand, support and guide individuals with sensory challenges to be more successful in learning and in meeting their occupational roles across development and within any environment.

  • Learning Goals
    • Understand sensory integration as a neurological process and how it relates to theory of practice, intervention approach and autism.
    • Explain key sensory concepts (e.g. sensory modulation, sensory discrimination) and the role they play in development and the learning process.
    • Recognize common challenges relating to sensory processing challenges (i.e., difficulties impacting attention, behaviour, learning and social engagement).
    • Identify each individual’s unique sensory profile in the context of development, environment and sensory differences.
